Obituary for Robert W. Hatfield

Robert W.  Hatfield
Robert W. Hatfield, 69, beloved husband for 31 years of Cynthia (Thorn) Hatfield, of Wagner Road, Shelter Harbor, passed away at L&M Hospital in New London on Thursday, July 20, 2017.

Born in New Bedford, Mass, he was the son of the late Wesley D. and Elizabeth Hatfield.

Robert graduated from Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY and attained the position of Actuary for United Healthcare where he worked for many years. He was a member of the Calabrese Society, the North End Club, the Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, the Westerly Yacht Club, the Weekapaug Golf Club and member and former President of the Westerly Lions Club. He was also a member of the Board of Governors of Shelter Harbor, the Weekapaug Surf Casters Club and R.I.M.S. In his free time, Robert enjoyed wine making, gardening, fishing and kite flying.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a stepson Darren Lavigne of Bangor, Maine; a sister Barbara Gulli of Ludlow, VT; two step grandchildren, Cassidy Lavigne and Julia Campbell; as well as many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his stepdaughter Deborah Lindberg.

Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 5-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clare Church, Crandall Ave., Westerly on Wednesday at 10am. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. Burial will be private.
