Donald H.  Carsten
Donald H. Carsten, 71, husband for 49 years of Marcia L. (Wright) Carsten, of Ashaway Road, Bradford, passed away peacefully at The Westerly Hospital on Saturday, March 28, 2015.

Born in Wakefield, RI he was a son of the late Edward, Sr. and Opal Carsten.

In addition to his beloved wife Marcia, he is survived by his son Brian Carsten and wife Kristen and daughter Kimberly and husband Edward James; five grandchildren, Meagan, Morgan and Matthew Duerr, Abigail and Alex Carsten, and Kyle Potter; two great grandchildren, Aubree and Cole; three brothers and a sister, Edward, Jr. (Marjorie), William (Sherry), Michael (Thomas) and Cheryl Devoe (Mark). He also leaves a mother-in-law Winifred Wright of Hopkinton, Calvin and Diane Herman of Quaker Hill, Gordon and Lynda Wright of Alton, Dennis Wright of Exeter, Linda Carlow of Norwich, Jeffery and Bonnie Wright of FL, Stephen Smith of Westerly, David Smith of Alton, Sharon and the late William Wheeler of ME, Stacey and Cliff Minakin of Ashaway, and Carlton and Elizabeth Wright of Hopkinton.

He graduated from the first class of Chariho High School in 1961 and then served in the RI National Guard. Don worked as a Heavy Equipment Operator for James Romanella and Sons for many years as well as Cherenzia Excavation and JJ Morrone Trucking.

He loved antiquing, traveling up North, bird watching and was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. He was a member of the Ashaway Sportsman’s Club.

Don will be greatly missed by his entire family.

Visiting hours will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, from 4-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A funeral service will take place on Thurs. at 11am at the funeral home.
