Obituary for Antonia M. Gengarella (Sciro)
Antonia “Toni” M (Sciro) Gengarella of Westerly passed away peacefully surrounded by her children at her home on March 14, 2023 at the age of 83.
Born in Westerly, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Evelyn Sciro.
Toni worked for the town of Westerly for 36 years until her retirement in 2010.
Toni loved entertaining family and friends at her home, especially on Christmas, where she would transform her home into a winter wonderland. Her home was opened to everyone for lots of food and good cheer. She loved animals especially cats. She never hesitated to take in a stray cat and make it part of the family. She also loved sports. She spent my days cheering on her grandson Kevin playing baseball and her grandson Shawn playing basketball and tennis. On weekends she would wrap herself in a blanket and hit the football field to watch her granddaughter Kelcie cheer. Toni never missed a cheering competition or dance recital. Toni loved going to the Town Beach with her best friend Kathy and her mom Evelyn. You could find them in the same spot every weekend during the summer.
Toni is survived by her three children, Laurie Cobleigh and her husband Neal, Guy Gengarella and his wife Denise and Kris Gengarella; three grandchildren, Shawn, Kevin and Kelcie Cobleigh; and one great grandson Bryson as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother Robert “Sharky” Sciro.
The family would like to thank Beacon Hospice for all their caring and support during Toni’s last days.
