Obituary for Rita Adele Adriano (Ravenelle)
Rita Adele (Ravenelle) Adriano, of Pawcatuck, passed away at Bayview Health Care Center in Waterford on Monday January 30, 2023 at the age of 88. She was predeceased by her husband John P. Adriano whom she was married to for 63 years.
Born in Pawcatuck, she was the daughter of the late Ubald and Rose Ravenelle. A lifelong resident of the area and member of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Rita attended Stonington High School and St. Michael’s School.
Rita was employed at the American Velvet Corporation in Stonington for 44 years until the company relocated out of state. She loved being with her family on holidays and yearly family reunions. Christmas was her favorite time of year and she loved to decorate, bake and drive around looking at Christmas decorations.
Rita was predeceased by her brothers, Albert Ravenelle, Arthur Ravenelle, Eugene Ravenelle, Edmund Ravenelle; and her sisters, Irene Neugent, Lillian Ravenelle, and her twin sister Rhea Lenihan.
Rita leaves her two children behind, daughter Adele Boutin and her husband David of North Stonington and John A. Adriano and his wife Joann of Pawcatuck. She also leaves two grandchildren, Dr. Jennifer Phaiah and her husband Adam of Noank and James Adriano and his wife Megan of Ledyard; four great-grandchildren, Landon Adriano Phaiah, Blake Kenneth Phaiah, Cameron John Adriano and Colin Anthony Adriano. Rita is survived by her brother Kenneth Ravenelle.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 5-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Liturgy will take place at 10am on Monday at St. Michael Church, 60 Liberty St., Pawcatuck. There is no procession to church from the funeral home.
