Obituary for Carolyn E. "Betty" Ferraro (Love)

Carolyn E. “Betty” Love Ferraro, 88, beloved wife for 67 years of Frederick J. Ferraro, of Laurel Avenue, Westerly, peacefully passed away at the Carriage House at The Elms on November 14, 2022 with family by her side. Born in Savannah GA, she was the daughter of Walter and Winifred Love.

Betty and Fred met in Savannah while Fred was stationed there in the Air Force. Once discharged, they moved to RI to begin their lives. The southern girl embraced her life up north along with the Italian heritage she adopted.

Betty began her career as an IBM operator after high school. She raised her four children and then returned to the workforce, first as a school bus driver for the Westerly Schools and then went to work at Electric Boat in Groton as a secretary, a position from which she retired. Betty and Fred enjoyed a long retirement sharing time between Savannah and Westerly and traveling the world.

Above all, Betty enjoyed cooking her Southern specialties along with the classic Italian dishes taught to her by her in-laws and friends. She prided herself on how her sauce “was as good as her mother-in-law’s.” She opened her home to all to celebrate and enjoy any and all occasions, especially her Christmas Eve open-house celebrations and many pool parties. Her southern hospitality shined through and was a driving force making all feel loved and welcomed in her home. She was a long-time communicant of Immaculate Conception Church where she served many roles. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, a constant figure in the adoration chapel, and a member of the church’s prayer group. She enjoyed being a member of the Calabrese Club’s Women's Auxiliary and served as its president for many years.

She is survived by her loving husband Fred and their four children, Peter Ferraro and wife Anne, Frederick Ferraro II, Robert Ferraro, and Donna Welch and husband Michael, all of Westerly, RI. Betty is also survived by her granddaughters, Teresa Transue, Andreya Ferraro and Danielle Ferraro; as well as brother Charlie Love of Savannah, GA.
Betty was predeceased by her brothers, Jimmy Love, Bobby Love, Donald Love; and her sister Pat-Ann Lee.

Visiting hours are respectfully omitted. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly at 12pm Friday. Burial will follow at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, Westerly is in charge of the arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
