Obituary for Carol A. Ross (Young)
Carol A. (Young) Ross, 74, beloved mother, sister and grandmother, passed away at L&M Hospital on Wednesday, July 28, 2021. She was the wife of the late John T. Ross.
Born in Westerly, and raised in Stonington, she was the daughter of the late Lillian and Malcolm A. P. Young.
Carol was a graduate of Stonington High School, class of 1964, and went on to work as a material tech aid at Electric Boat, originally in Quonset Point and then in Groton, for 38 years until her retirement. A communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Carol was also an avid card and board game player.
She dedicated her entire life to her family and will be dearly missed by her three children, Bonnie J. Hunt and Tracy Gaccione, both of Ashaway, and Gregory M. Howard and wife Shannon of Westerly; three siblings, Sharon Provatas of Bradford, Kenneth Young of Lebanon, CT, and Ronald Young of Westerly; and her four grandchildren that were her true pride and joy, Evan Souza, Amber Lucente, and Tristan and Mia Howard. Carol is also survived by her five stepchildren, Stephen Howard of Westerly, Nicole Varas of North Stonington, and John T. Ross, Jr., Brian Ross and Beth Ross, all of Hilton Head, SC; and many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as several cherished nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two stepchildren, Victoria Goodale and Christopher Ross.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4-6pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church.
