Obituary for Sato Palmer (Kiso)

Sato (Kiso) Palmer, of Pendleton Hill Road in Voluntown, CT, passed away at her home on Friday, June 18, 2021 at the age of 90. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Palmer.

Born in Shimodate City, Ibaraki, Japan, she was the daughter of the late Nitaro and Kimi Kiso.

A survivor of the WWII atomic bombings of both Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Sato was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Pendleton Hill and a member of the Eastern Star. She was an accomplished cook and baker who will be remembered dearly as a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She leaves her two children, Irene Kolb and husband Richard of Voluntown and Ernest Palmer and his wife Kathleen of Severen, MD; two sisters, Setsuko Motai and Yukiko Murata, both of Japan; six grandchildren, Kimi (Sean) Kearns, Noreen (Matthew) Mumford-Charles, Stephen (Christina) Mumford, Matthew (Kathy) Mumford, Eric (Jenna) Palmer, and Shannon (Shane) Hendry; two step-grandchildren, Dexter Kolb and Dustin (Anna) Kolb; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Sato was predeceased by her infant son George; and three brothers.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 23 from 5-7pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Funeral Service will be take place at 11am on Thursday, June 24 in the funeral home. Burial will be private. For online condolences please visit www.gaffneydolanfuneralhome.com
