Obituary for Wayne Edward Kay

On May 18, 2021 Wayne E. Kay of Arlington Acres, Stonington, passed away at Bayview Health Care in Waterford. He died at the age of 80 years, after a long struggle with COPD. Wayne was born in Portsmouth, NH, son of Edwin F. and Thelma M. Kay. He graduated 1960 from New London High School and worked for about 40 years at Electric Boat in Groton.

Wayne was a kind and generous man who used his resources to provide support for many people throughout his life, particularly young people. His kindness and his sharing of all that he had with others was a hallmark of his character. Wayne was especially generous in supporting the Boy Scouts of Troop 9 Pawcatuck, and he has been an honorary member of the troop for many years.

Survivors include a sister, Betty M. Burns, of Spring Hill, Florida, and a number of nieces and nephews, as well as the scouts and leaders of Troop 9. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Carole L. Buffinton. Wayne loved music, photography, computer chats, and travel. Through his travels and computer connections he made many good friends throughout the United States and Europe.

A memorial service, to be conducted by scouts of Troop 9, will be held this summer at the Kay family plot in Elm Grove Cemetery, Mystic. To honor Wayne, please do a kindness for someone in his memory. Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly is in care of the arrangements.
