Obituary for Romalda J "Rummie" Del Bene (Szymanski)

Romalda “Rummie” Joanna (Szymanski) Del Bene, RN, passed away at The Westerly Hospital on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at the age of 101.

She was born in Mystic, CT to the late John and Josephine Szymanski, formerly of Stonington.

She was the wife of the late US Army retired Lt. Col. Francis J. Del Bene, whom she married in June of 1942. He predeceased her in 1977. She leaves behind her children, Linda S. Brown (Richard), Cheryl A. Ferraro (Carlo) and Donald F. Del Bene (Danielle). She also has eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Rummie was Sisters of St. Francis Registered Nurse. She had worked at The Westerly Hospital, as an Industrial Nurse at Davis Standard and as a private duty nurse.
Rummie, as an Army wife, moved every few years. She lived in Beppu and Tokyo Japan, Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C. and Governors Island, NY.

Rummie loved nursing, the beach, chocolate and her 4 o’clock Manhattan. She contributes her longevity to her mother’s good cooking.

A visiting hour will be held at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30a.m., immediately followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at St. Pius X Church, 44 Elm St., Westerly.
