Obituary for Vincent S. Rose

Vincent S.  Rose
Vincent S. Rose, 89, beloved husband of Jerry Sue (Triplett) Rose, of Brown Dr., Westerly, passed away at L&M Hospital in New London on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.

Born in Westerly, he was a son of the late Alexander and Mary Rose.

Vincent worked as an Electrical Engineer for the Naval Research Lab in Washington, D.C.
A US Army Veteran of WWII, he also was a graduate of George Washington University and a communicant of St. Clare Church. He represented the United States at a North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) meeting in Oslo Norway in order to safeguard the freedom and security of the United States and the many countries under the NATO membership.
Mr. Rose was recognized by the Secretary of Navy, being named a Pioneer in the Space Program for his ingenious development of the Galactic Radiation and Background (GRAB) satellite. The GRAB satellite was launched June 22, 1960. It has the distinction of being the first successful U.S. intelligence satellite, returning intelligence data on 5 July 1960. This groundbreaking event laid the foundation for our National defense and intelligence and protection of the United States.
In addition to his wife, he leaves three sons, Eric Rose and his wife Dina of Las Vegas, NV, Vincent Rose and his wife Suzy of Stevensville, MD, Kent Rose and his wife Schean of Gambrills, MD; and two daughters, Ronda Riley and her husband William of Centreville, MD and Alison Rose of Westerly. Vincent will also be dearly missed by his three sisters, Rita Cuda and Julia Pucci, both of Bradford and Ida Signorelli of Wakefield; 13 grandchildren, Randy, Caroline, Nicholas, Eric, Maxwell, Alison and her husband Cameron, Mary and her husband Jason, Vincent, Benjamin, Brooke, Alex, Rhett and his wife Jessica, and Ryan; as well as two great grandchildren, Mia and Clyde and several nieces and nephews. vince leaves behind special friends and neighbors, John and Annemarie Broccolo, Mary Ventresca, Joe, Helen and son Joe Bohar. He was predeceased by a son Ronald Rose.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday from 1-3pm at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Clare Church, Crandall Ave., Westerly on Monday at 10am. There is no procession from the funeral home to the church.
