Obituary for Steven C. Gerrish

Print
Steven Charles Gerrish, age 60, of North Stonington, CT passed away on October 6th, 2018. Steve was surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of his own home when he peacefully passed after a hard-fought battle against cancer.

Steve was born in Maine, however grew up on Mason’s Island where he loved to go clamming, lobstering, and boating with his friends. His love for the water was something that continued throughout life, spending his last summer happily fishing and relaxing on his boat in the Mystic River with his friends and family.

Besides the water, Steve loved to spend time with his best friend and wife, Lisa (Cecchini) Gerrish. Together, with the help of their families, they built their house in North Stonington where they resided for the past 25 years. After their kids left the house they traveled, enjoyed happy hours, and lived life to the fullest.

While Steve enjoyed life outside of work, he was known for his dedication to Electric Boat, where he recently celebrated his 40 year anniversary. His family referred to this as his second home, as he often spent countless hours making sure that his job was done and done right. Steve took great pride in his work ethic, much like his father, Walter Gerrish, who passed away in 2006.

Along with his wife, Steve spent his time outside of work with his children and their significant others. Heather Armad and Michael Pinkerton of Waterford, Amanda and Frank Ungvary of Maine, Kyle and Heather Gerrish of Salem, Kendra and JC Flaherty of Old Lyme, and Katlyn and Dan Vuono of Westerly, all were his best buddies. Besides his immediate family, Steve leaves behind his mother Rita Gerrish; sisters and brothers in-law, Pat and Doug Lima and Jan and Rich Formisano; and brother Edward Gerrish. His five grandsons and four granddaughters were also the light of his life and will deeply miss him.

Visiting hours will be held from 4-8pm on Wednesday, October 10th at Gaffney Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am on Thursday, October 11th at Immaculate Conception Church, 111 High St., Westerly. There is no procession from the funeral home to church. The family would appreciate your support and understanding as they will have a private burial following Mass on Thursday.
